Aberystwyth University was founded in 1872 as the University College Wales. They became the founder member of the University of Wales in 1894 and changed their name to University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. It wasn’t until the mid-1900s that they changed their name to Aberystwyth University. They are a public research university situated in Wales and they have a student population of more than 8,000 students.
