Northern School of Contemporary Dance

About

The Northern School of Contemporary Dance was established in 1985 as the first conservatoire dance school in the public sector. The school was founded to provide the young people of Leeds with vocational dance training. Since its beginnings, the Northern School of Contemporary Dance has produced some of the UK’s leading contemporary dance artists including Tom Roden, Akram Khan, Benji Reid, Robert Hylton, and Fleur Darkin. They moved to their permanent home of Chapeltown in 1987 and have since grown to become one of the UK’s leading dance training institutions. The Northern School of Contemporary Dance provides a plethora of postgraduate, undergraduate and higher education programs. They have state-of-the-art facilities including the Riley Theatre, large dance studios, a bodywork studio, a lighting studio, a library, a stunning courtyard and their own café bar where you can relax and socialise.
