About  

Northumbria is a professional, business-focused, research-rich university with a reputation for academic excellence globally. It is based in Tyne, in the heart of Newcastle, numerously voted as the best place in the UK for students. The university was founded in 1880 and is in the top 10 universities in the UK for the number of graduates that enter professional employment six months after leaving the university.  

In 2014, they were ranked 21st out of 111 universities in the Times Higher Education Student Satisfaction Survey. They work with numerous big employers including BBC, the NS, Nissan, IBM, Nike, and Proctor & Gamble. They also have campuses in London and Amsterdam in addition to their main campus in Newcastle.  

Postgraduate Programs They Run 

Northumbria has tonnes of postgraduate programs to choose from, spanning topics such as real estate, computer science, sport management, digital marketing, engineering, data science, sport performance, cyber security, and more. Some of the accreditations their courses offer include Master of Science (MSc), Master of Art (MA), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert), and Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip). Flexible learning options are also available on some courses such as part-time and online learning.  

Admissions Process 

Full-time undergraduate students can apply via UCAS as well as international students. Part-time students and postgraduate students can make their applications directly on the Northumbria website. Simply search the course you want to apply for and click the apply button. Once applications have been sent, the university will get back to you regarding the status of your application.  

Accommodation 

Northumbria has a range of different accommodation options for you to choose from and you can easily apply via their student portal. Most accommodation is just a short walk from the campus and features a bed and study area. The accommodation usually features a shared kitchen and common area. Some of the rooms have private bathrooms while others have shared bathrooms. Self-contained studios are also available. Prices vary depending on the accommodation and usually have an on-site laundrette. You will be asked to pay a deposit to secure your accommodation, this is usually around £250.  

Scholarships and Financial Support 

Northumbria has a number of scholarships and funding options available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Some of the scholarships available include the St Nicholas Scholarship, the Vaughan Oliver Graphic Design Scholarship, and The Qolcom Nursing Scholarship. There is also the Care Leavers Bursary and other funding options available if you do not qualify for scholarships. You can view all the available scholarships and their entry criteria on the Northumbria website. Some of the scholarships award up to £2,500 toward university tuition fees.
