What is fashion marketing?

Fashion marketing is the process of planning and promoting goods or services that are in the fashion industry. It is also known as fashion merchandising and includes finding the right audience to target products and services through promotion and branding skills. 

A career in fashion marketing will mean that you are responsible for many different things such as tracking consumer trends, tracking consumer habits and creating a strategy using the results in order to increase business revenue and sales. You will have to create opportunities to promote products and services in the fashion industry and ensure they reach the right audience.

Other areas you will delve into include using social media to create content, create promotions and campaigns as well as effective advertising. From different social media platforms you can compile data and analytics to go forward and implement new ideas and strategies. This area involves trying new things and examining if they work and are effective marketing strategies and making changes where needed. 

The work mostly follows the format of a Monday-Friday, 9-5 job and is mostly office based as well as sometimes being in shops and retailer’s floors.

You will be equipped with the relevant skills to help evolve the fashion industry and learn to become more ethically conscious, socially progressive and environmentally sustainable in the process.

Entry requirements 

Entry requirements may differ from course to course or university to university. Therefore, it is important to research your specific course in detail to ensure you meet the entry requirements. As these courses are postgraduate courses, you will need a bachelor’s degree. Some courses may accept a 2.2 degree while others will require a 2.1 in a relevant degree. Experience in marketing may be required in some cases.

There are a few variables when it comes to salaries in this area. These include your employment type, your experience and sometimes in this area, your location can make a difference. It is believed that the salary in fashion marketing is an average of around £33,800. Like a lot of jobs, starting out your salary will be less and can often increase with experience.
