The Royal Academy of Music has a global presence with its students coming from over 60 different countries. Some well-known names who learned their craft here include Harrison Birtwistle, Elton John, Simon Rattle, and Felicity Lott. Each student attending the Royal Academy of Music benefits from a stimulating curriculum and a brilliant range of events and concerts. In 1999, the academy became the only music member of the University of London, one of the most diverse and largest universities in the UK.
Types of Postgraduate Programs They Run
The Royal Academy of Music has a range of postgraduate-level courses to choose from. They cover topics such as performance, composition, musical theatre, creative music leadership, conducting, opera, and more. Their postgraduate level programs offer award classifications such as Professional Diploma (Prof Dip), CPD Diploma, Advanced Diploma (Adv Dip), Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert), Master of Arts (MA), and Master of Music (MMus).
Admissions Process
Undergraduate applicants should make their applications by visiting the UCAS website. When filling out your online application, you will need the course and institution codes. These can be found on the Royal Academy of Music website. Postgraduate candidates should apply directly on the website by visiting their chosen course page. Press the apply button and you will be redirected to an online application form to fill out. Before applying be sure to read all the entry requirements of your chosen course.
Accommodation
The Royal Academy of Music is based in Marylebone so rent can be quite expensive here. There are a small number of halls available here and rent is around £230 per week which includes bills. The room types vary as do the facilities the halls offers so be sure to check the Royal Academy of Music website for more information or contact the admissions team.
Scholarships and Financial Support
The Royal Academy of Music has bursaries that are given to students based on financial need. Their Financial Assistance application form is automatically sent to all students who are eligible when they are made an offer. The funds vary each year and the academy always tried to help as many students as it can. In saying that, not all applications are successful. The academy also awarded 258 students with bursaries last year and most of them were awarded between £1000 and £2000. There are also other financial supports, for example, the Waiver Bursaries.
