About
The Royal College of Music is one of the world’s great conservatoires, training aspiring and gifted musicians from all across the globe and transforming them into composers, conductors, and performers. Initially opened in 1883 by the then Prince of Wales, the Royal College of Music has taught some of the most important figures in international and British music life. This includes composers such as Turnage, Britten, Vaughan Williams, and Holst as well as conductors like Sir Collin Davis, Sir Roger Norrington, and Leopold Stokowski. In addition, singers like Sir Thomas Allen, Alfle Boe, and Dame Joan Sutherland and instrumentalists including Gervase de Peyer, Natalie Clein, John Lill, and Sir James Galway also attended here. The Royal Academy of Music has more than 840 students from over 55 different countries on their undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Types of Postgraduate Programs They Run
The Royal College of Music has a number of postgraduate-level degree programs to choose from. They span topics such as composition, performance, opera, vocal performance, and more. Some of the accreditations their postgraduate courses provide include Master of Education (Med), Master of Music (MMus), Master of Performance (MPerf), Master of Composition (MComp), Art Diploma (ArtDip), and more.
Admissions Process
Those looking to study undergraduate programs at The Royal College of Music should apply via the UCAS website. You will need to include the course and institution codes in your online application and these can be found on the Royal College of Music website. After you have submitted your application, the admissions team will review it and contact you to let you know if you have been successful. Postgraduate applicants can make their applications directly on the Royal College of Music website. Be sure you have read all the course requirements before you make your application. To apply, visit the page of your chosen course and press the apply now button. You will then be redirected to an online application form to fill out. The next step is to submit your application. The admissions team will then review your application and contact you.
Accommodation
The Royal College of Music has its own hall of residence, Prince Consort Village, which offers high-quality accommodation for around 400 students. The accommodation is specifically designed for music students and the rooms are acoustically treated. In addition, there are 23 practice rooms on-site. There is a range of different room types include one-bedroom apartments, standard rooms, en-suite bedrooms, studios, and more. At a minimum, your room will contain a bed, wardrobe, storage, a desk, and a chair. Kitchen and living areas are shared and laundry facilities are available on site. Scholarships and Financial Support
More than 60% of the Royal College of Music’s students benefit from financial support. Each student who applies for a spot on one of the performance or composition courses starting in 2022 will be considered for a scholarship. Scholarships are offered based on your financial needs and application. The amounts vary from student to student and can be a small contribution or your entire tuition fees. If you are offered a scholarship, you will be notified of this through a confirmation letter after you have been offered a place on the course.
