St. George’s University of London was established in 1733 and is an open research university. The university is associated with St George’s Hospital and the University of London. They are known as the first UK university to provide a four-year program in medical science. When the university was established, they began building a hospital that initially had two wards and catered for thirty patients. However, by 1734, they were able to take more than 250 patients and had 15 wards. In addition, John Hunter, the famous surgeon, took medical classes here in 1756.
