About 

The University of Edinburgh was established in 1582 and is considered to be the sixth oldest university in Scotland. It is also known to be the best open institute in Scotland. It has five campuses – Centra are, King’s building, Western General, Easter Bush and BioQuarter. The Central area campus is the oldest and houses the Social Science and Humanities, School of Law and School of Computing and Informatics in addition to the main library.  

The King’s campus consists of research centres of engineering and science. The BioQuarter campus houses the research institutes and medical facilities while the Western General is one of the main teaching hospitals associated with the university. The Easter Bush campus is eight miles to the south of Edinburgh city centre, close to Penicuik. It is comprised of The Roslin Institute and The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.  

Postgraduate Programs They Run 

University of Edinburgh offers a range of postgraduate programs from courses in art and design to chemistry, counselling and psychotherapy, dentistry, nursing, law and more. Some of the awards their courses offer include Master of Science (MSc), Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Science in Clinical Research (MSCR), Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) and Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip). Admissions Process 

Full-time undergraduate students must apply by submitting an online application through the UCAS. When applying, you will need qualifications, a personal statement and a reference. Once you have submitted your application, the university will be in touch with you regarding your application’s status. Postgraduate students should use the Degree Finder on the University of Edinburgh website and submit their application by clicking the Apply button on the relevant course page. The application form will guide you on how to complete each section. After you have submitted your application, the university will reach out to you to let you know whether they are offering you a place on your chosen course.  

Accommodation 

The University of Edinburgh offers a wide range of first-rate student accommodation with support and catering options. The halls of residence consist of entire buildings of flats. The layout of their residences includes five-person flats, shared rooms, single rooms and corridors with common rooms. All halls have at a minimum: 

  • A cleaning service fortnightly of communal areas 
  • Coin-operated laundry facilities 
  • A residence life team who encourages socialising and provide support 
  • Wireless internet with outlets for wired connection

Scholarships and Financial Support 

University of Edinburgh provides scholarships and financial support to undergraduate, postgraduate and international students. Some of these options include merit-based scholarships such as the science and engineering scholarships in addition to access awards such as the Cowrie Foundation Scholarship, Access Edinburgh Scholarship, Helena Kennedy Foundation bursary and more. For postgraduate students, there are also online learning scholarships available.
