About

The University for the Creative Arts’ history can be traced back to 1867 when it started as Maidstone College of Art. In 1987, it merged with a number of art colleges to create the Kent Institute of Art and Design. Since then, they changed their name, and eventually, they were granted university status. They changed their name to University for the Creative Arts in 2008. They provide a range of foundation, postgraduate and undergraduate level courses as well as pathway courses. All their programs are taught under 14 different subjects.

These include computing, animation, computer animation, games design, interior architecture, garden design, and more. They have a business department, film and tv department, fine art department, and a media and journalism department. These departments offer a range of different programs across various subject matter including fashion journalism, fashion business and management, fashion promotion, and more. They have four different campuses across England at Canterbury, Farnham, Rochester, and Epsom. They also have the Maidstone TV Studios, the UK’s biggest studio facility as well as the Royal School of Needlework, situated in Hampton Court Palace.

Types of Postgraduate Programs They Run

The University for the Creative Arts provides a number of postgraduate courses across various disciplines. Some of the topics these programs focus on include writing, architecture, animation, design, ceramics, fashion, digital media, games design, marketing, business management, and more. The award classifications their postgraduate level programs offer include Master of Art (MA), Master of Science (MSc), and Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert). Some of these programs allow for part-time learning also.

Admissions Process

Students looking to study full-time undergraduate courses should apply via the UCAS. It is vital to include the correct institution and course codes, these can be found on the University for the Creative Arts website. Once you have sent your application, the university will be in touch with you to update you on the progress of your application.

Postgraduate applicants can apply to courses at the University for Creative Arts directly on the website. Simply go to find a course and hit the apply now button. You will then be brought to an online application form which you can fill out. If you are applying for part-time courses, you can make your application in the same way. The university will then review your application and revert back to you.

Accommodation

University for the Creative Arts has student accommodation at each of its campuses – Canterbury, Epsom, Farnham, and Rochester. Each of the campus accommodations has student wardens that live on campus if you need support outside of hours, there is a no smoking policy and Wi-Fi is included in your rent. Most of the bedrooms are single en-suite rooms and you will have to share a dining and kitchen area. Your room will contain a bed, wardrobe, shelving, desk, and a chair.

The kitchens are fully equipped but you will need to bring pots, pans, cutlery, kitchen utensils, crockery, towels, and tea towels. Living areas are also generally shared and make for good social spaces. Rooms and shared areas are heated also. The rent prices vary depending on the accommodation as do the room types and contract lengths. All accommodation is not far from necessary amenities and is situated ideally for public transport. Scholarships and Financial Support

The University for the Creative Arts has a number of fee discounts and scholarships available to help you pay the cost of your studies. Some of these scholarships include the Sir Ray Tindle Scholarship, the Elaine Thomas Bursary for Care Leavers, and the Nick Jack Scholarship. Some of these scholarships award up to £5000.
