About 

The University of Westminster was founded in 1838 as the first polytechnic in London and was one of the first in the UK. It was founded as the Royal Polytechnic Institute and is one of the oldest institutions in Britain. It received university status and was renamed the University of Westminster in 1992. Today, they support over 19,000 students on their undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses. They have students from over 169 countries enrolled on their courses.  

Their main campus is located in Central London on Regent Street but they do have three other campuses – Marylebone, Harrow, and Fitzrovia. The university is divided into three colleges, twelve schools and 65 departments, and research centres. They have 180 undergraduate programs, 231 postgraduate programs, and 99 short and professional courses. These include full-time, part-time, and distance learning courses.  

Postgraduate Programs They Run 

The University of Westminster runs approximately 231 postgraduate programs which span topics such as biomedical science, architecture, creative writing, marketing, languages, accounting, finance, health, media, and more. Some of the award accreditations the university provides include Master of Law (LLM), Master of Art (MA), Master of Science (MSc), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip), and more. Some of their postgraduate courses can be completed on a part-time basis during the day or in the evening.  

Admissions Process 

Applying for undergraduate courses at the University of Westminster is relatively straightforward. Simply go to the page of your chosen course and press the red apply button. You will then be redirected to the UCAS website where you can fill out and submit your application. All students applying for full-time undergraduate courses at the University of Westminster must apply via UCAS, this includes international students. When filling out the application, you will need the course code and institution code, you can find these on the relevant course page on the University of Westminster website.  

You will also need to include any of your existing qualifications, predicted results, a personal statement, and one reference. Once submitted, the university will get in touch with you to let you know whether you have been successful. Throughout the process, you can also track your application. For postgraduate courses, you can apply directly via the University of Westminster’s application service on their website. All you need to do is click the red button and you will then begin filling in your application. You will need copies of your qualifications, a personal statement, and references. International students will need proof that they have a good standard of the English language and also their passport. The university will then be in contact with you to let you know if they would like to offer you a place on the course.  

Accommodation 

The University of Westminster has four halls of residence where you can stay while you complete your studies. They are located in Harrow, Marylebone, Hoxton, and Wembley Park (just for undergraduate and postgraduate students). Rents vary from £180 to £286 per week as do room sizes. Standard rooms, large en-suite rooms, twin rooms, and studios are available. Standard rooms feature a single bed, wardrobe, bedside table, and a study area which has a desk, chair, mirror, notice board, shelves, and drawers. Large en-suite rooms have a private bathroom with a shower and sink, a single bed, bedside table, wardrobe, large study area with a desk, chair, shelves, and extra drawers. A notice board and a mirror are also included. Twin rooms featured 2 twin beds, a bedside table for you, a study desk and chair as well as a wardrobe and lamp. Studios have a large study area, study chair, extra drawers, notice board, double bed, and an extra table for eating and living.  

Most of the accommodation will have a shared kitchen which has a cooker, refrigerator, kettle, toaster, and microwave. There is also the hall reception where you can go if you have any questions. The reception is 24 hour as is the security for the halls. Some accommodations also have common rooms where students can go to socialise and relax. These often have a TV and coach. Some of the properties also have penthouse single en-suite rooms and twin en-suite rooms. One-bedroom flats and disability-friendly accommodation options are also available. You can apply for accommodation by logging into the University of Westminster’s Housing Portal. The halls are not available to part-time students so if you are studying here part-time and are looking for accommodation, you will have to find private accommodation.  

Scholarships and Financial Support 

The University of Westminster has funding options for undergraduate students which include the Student Finance England (SFE). They provide funding to undergraduate students so long as you meet their entry requirements. Full-time and part-time undergraduates may also apply for Disabled Students’ Allowance. The University of Westminster has a couple of scholarships available for postgraduate students. These include the Chevening Scholarship which is a full scholarship and the International Postgraduate Part Fee Scholarship which awards £2000.
